BirthFocus director, Ilana Stein, the mother of three, has been working
professionally with pregnant women since 1983 as a childbirth educator,
labor support doula, doula trainer and mentor, hypno-therapist and
LaLeche League leader (breastfeeding counselor). She coordinated the
volunteer doula program at the Elizabeth Seton Childbearing Center and
co-founded The
Metropolitan Doula Group, a continuing education forum for labor
support professionals. A guest lecturer at New York University, a
presenter at birth related conferences, and the author of many published
articles about birth, Ms. Stein teaches DONA International birth doula
training workshops in the New York metropolitan area. She is certified
by DONA International. Ilana is the 2007 recipient of The Penny Simkin
Award for Doula Spirit and Mentoring.
